in honor of the zappa catalog being on spotify i have a few words about the dude.
a lot of people “grew up with the beatles”, and that’s cool but to be honest your parents we’re super boring if that’s all you can recall. they wrote songs that we’re memorable, and they stick out to you because they are supposed to.
in no way am i saying, i’m special, or cooler, or whatever but i specifically remember my dad giving me joes garage on vinyl when i was in 5th grade. i don’t ever remember being hugged by my parents, i don’t ever remember being told “you’re great” - i just remember being told that zappa ruled and that he was an “entertainer’s entertainer”
i grew up thinking zappa was the coolest - even though i was confused by just about everything he did. i didn’t really even know if it was actually music.
my dad told me that when music people have big parties they get two people to play - zz top or frank zappa. he was lying for sure - but it stuck with me and it makes sense.
anyway, who needs the peace corps?
